One way or another, Carlton’s Sam Walsh continues to take his game from one level to the next.

Now in his third AFL season, the 20-year-old has emerged as a bona fide star of the competition such has been his remarkable consistency.

Walsh put up a career best in disposals when he amassed 38 touches in Sunday’s hard-fought 10-point victory over Adelaide.

His best-on-ground performance also included nine inside 50s, nine score involvements, a goal assist and 578 metres gained in a constantly active display highlighted by his elite hard running abilities.

The 2019 Ron Evans Medallist has been a model of consistency since his debut season, racking up 20 or more disposals in 43 of his 53 career games. That has improved even further in 2021, evidenced by the fact he has hit the 30-disposal mark in nine of his 14 outings.

After he was kept relatively quiet against GWS in round 14, Walsh bounced back big time by seemingly bringing his own footy out onto Marvel Stadium against the Crows.

“For me, my running is going to hold me in good stead. That’s my role for the team,” he said on Fox Footy.

“Last week (against the Giants) I learnt a fair bit. Once you get the attention like that you’ve got to find ways to get open.

“My teammates did a great job of helping out as well.”

Walsh is TopSport's Best of the Best for Round 15.
