North Melbourne midfielder Ben Cunnington is “having an All-Australian season”, according to SEN host Dwayne Russell.

The champion Roo is averaging a career-high 27 disposals and 7.7 clearances from 12 games in 2021, overtaking Adam Simpson’s record for the most clearances in club history.

Cunnington’s eight clearances in Saturday’s win over Gold Coast took his career total to 1284, two ahead of Simpson’s tally of 1282.

The two-time Syd Barker Medallist is the heartbeat of North Melbourne’s side with his 224 games worth of experience invaluable to first-time senior coach David Noble.

After an injury-ravaged 2020 season that restricted the on-baller to just three games, Cunnington is back to his bullocking best.
