Why Cooney has more faith in the Dogs than the Dees to win the flag

Brownlow Medallist Adam Cooney has more faith in the Western Bulldogs to win the flag this year than Melbourne.

The two sides have held sway as the competition’s two dominant teams, with the Demons a game clear on top of the ladder.

However, given the Bulldogs’ core of premiership players and Melbourne’s overall finals inexperience, Cooney feels the former are more likely to get it done in September.

“They’re playing so well at the moment the Bulldogs,” Cooney told SEN SA Breakfast.

“Whether or not you put your full faith in the Dees after a tumultuous couple of years after making a prelim final in 2018, it remains to be seen whether you can trust them in big games in September.

“We know the Bulldogs have done it a few years ago, they haven’t played well in finals since, but they’ve been there.

“So I’ve probably got a bit more faith in the Bulldogs than Melbourne to win it this year given Marcus Bontempelli and some of these stars have been there and won a premiership before.”

Melbourne won comfortably when the two sides met earlier in the season and they will face off again in Round 20.
