The unheralded Sun who deserves more credit

2021-07-02T16:02+10:00

Gold Coast’s win over Richmond was impressive in many ways, but near the top of the list was Sean Lemmens’ performance on three-time Norm Smith Medallist Dustin Martin.

The 26-year-old Lemmens rose to the occasion in the matchup, impressing former All-Australian defender Bob Murphy.

“I loved his game last night,” Murphy told SEN’s Bob and Andy.

“There was one moment that really jumped out. There was a high ball, he’s with Dustin Martin one-on-one and he just completely out-pointed Dusty.

“I was shocked, you don’t see that very often if ever and the commentary was ‘Lemmens takes a mark and puts it back inside 50’ and I was like woah, woah, woah, hang on. That’s a big moment!”

Co-host Andy Maher agreed and was equally impressed with Lemmens’ performance.

“Could anyone have mentioned his game last night while it was unfolding?” Maher said.

“It was as good an individual one-on-one matchup on Martin as I think I’ve ever seen.

“I think he had half a dozen big moments on Martin last night. Whether it was a clean one-on-one win or just not letting him get off the chain, I thought Lemmens was fantastic last night.”

The Suns will look to take the impressive form into next weekend’s clash with GWS.
