Bombers assistant “open to a phone call” for senior coaching vacancy

Essendon assistant coach Blake Caracella is “open to a phone call” from an AFL club looking for a senior coach.

One club that’s on the hunt for a new coach is Collingwood with their selection process to identify Nathan Buckley's replacement well underway.

Caracella, who previously worked at the Magpies as an assistant between 2007 and 2009, has been involved in three premierships as an assistant coach – Geelong in 2011 and Richmond in 2017 and 2019.

The 44-year-old was asked whether he still harbours ambitions to be a senior coach.

“I’m certainly open to a phone call from a club if they felt the need to speak to me,” Caracella told AFL Nation.

“But I haven’t given it a lot of thought really with the footy cap and the amount of work we’re doing at the moment.

“There’s not much time to think about those things, but I’m certainly open to a phone call.”

Caracella, a premiership player with the Bombers in 2000 and Brisbane in 2003, departed the Tigers at the end of 2019 to return to former club Essendon.
