Fremantle great confident Cerra will stay, encourages double swoop on WA talents

Fremantle great Matthew Pavlich is confident that young midfielder Adam Cerra will re-sign with the Dockers.

Cerra comes out of contract at the end of the season and is reportedly attracting interest from Victorian clubs, including Carlton and Richmond.

The 21-year-old has a four-year deal on the table from the Dockers, but is yet to make a call on his future.

“I think Adam Cerra’s going to stay,” Pavlich told SEN WA’s Gilly and Goss.

“All the talk is that as the year goes on and the end of the season nears, everyone’s saying that he’s going to go.

“I have the contrary view. I think he’ll stay, Adam Cerra. That’s for no other reason that they’re building something pretty impressive down there at Fremantle, and I think he wants to be part of that.

“It may not be the four-year or the five-year longer-term deal that everyone at Fremantle would like him to sign, but it might be a shorter contract.

“I think he’ll stay, and I think he should stay. Get himself to that free agency window and then he can make that call.

“I think they should fight as hard as they can to keep Adam Cerra, because he’s a really good young person and he’s an improving player.

“If he gets that really strong grit and determination in his game, he could be an absolute superstar of the AFL competition.”

Ex-Dockers skipper Pavlich has encouraged his former club to lure Geelong’s Jordan Clark and Richmond’s Shai Bolton back to Western Australia.

Clark is contracted to the Cats for 2022, while Bolton remains unsigned beyond this year.

“In terms of trading, Freo should absolutely still go after the likes of (Jordan) Clark and (Shai) Bolton from Western Australia to get them home and play for the Dockers,” Pavlich said.

Fremantle moved into the top eight after thrashing Hawthorn by 62 points on Saturday.

They play host to the third-placed Cats in a big Thursday night clash at Optus Stadium.
