Victorian rivals team up in scratch match as North youngster makes stunning injury return

2021-07-17T14:16+10:00

North Melbourne youngster Charlie Comben has rocketed into contention for a senior debut after kicking four goals in a half against Brisbane during a scratch match on Saturday.

In a unique set of circumstances, a ‘Victoria’ side made up of North and Essendon players took on the Lions in another sign of the current COVID-related times.

Comben played the first half, before sitting out the second as the Roos manage him in his long-awaited comeback game from injury.

The teenager suffered a tibial stress fracture earlier in the year and only returned to main training in June, while he was unable to play any footy for the majority of 2020 due to injury.

Taken with pick 31 in the 2019 National Draft, Comben’s emergence is an exciting prospect for North Melbourne, who are searching for a key forward to partner Nick Larkey.

The combined North Melbourne/Essendon 'Victoria' team beat Brisbane by 46 points.
