Fresh deals for Geelong pair, futures of young mids “clouded”

2021-07-20T12:50+10:00

Jed Bews and Gryan Miers have agreed to terms on new contracts to stay at Geelong, reports SEN’s Sam Edmund.

Bews and Miers, who were both due to come out of contract at season’s end, have recommitted to the Cats with their new deals set to be announced soon.

It comes after Esava Ratugolea re-signed with Geelong for a further two years on Monday, tying him to the club until the end of 2023.

“The Cats have been busy at the contract table,” Edmund told SEN Breakfast.

“There are fresh deals soon to be announced on two of Esava’s teammates – one of them is Jed Bews. He’s agreed to a multi-year contract – might even be as long as three years for Jed Bews.

“And Gryan Miers, who has made such an impression in his first four seasons at the club, has also committed, perhaps for another couple of seasons.”

Young Geelong midfielders Quinton Narkle and Charlie Constable are also coming out of contract amid increasing uncertainty over their futures.

“Quinton Narkle and Charlie Constable – their futures are still clouded,” Edmund said.

“Neither had any rival interest last year of note to convince them to leave the Cattery.

“That might have changed for both of them eight months on even if player movement looks to be a lot quieter this off-season.”

Constable, 22, has appeared at AFL level just 12 times across nearly four seasons, while 23-year-old Narkle has played 26 games since debuting in 2018.
