Veteran Blue provides contract update

2021-07-21T08:45+10:00

Carlton veteran Ed Curnow says he’s “pretty comfortable” with where his contract situation sits.

The 31-year-old has played all 17 games in 2021, averaging 22.8 disposals and 4.5 inside 50s per game, and is due to play his 200th game against North Melbourne on Saturday.

Curnow's current deal is due to expire at season's end.

“I think where I’m at now, I’m pretty comfortable with it (contract situation),” Curnow told Sportsday.

“If the club wants to move on, I’ve had a great time. But If I stay around, I would love that equally and I’ll just try and fulfil a role in the team.

“Hopefully we can bounce back up the ladder, which I really think we’re close to doing at the moment.

“I’ve been fortunate enough that coaches have put a lot of time into me, and I’ve loved the whole journey, albeit at times it hasn’t been a successful period.

“It’s been a good experience.”

Blues forward Charlie Curnow is itching to play in his brother’s milestone game after getting through a scratch match last weekend unscathed.

Curnow, who has been plagued by knee injuries, stepped out for his first game in over two years as he nears a long-awaited AFL return.

Garry Lyon and Tim Watson debated whether Carlton should unleash Curnow against the Kangaroos this weekend.

“Would they risk him? I wouldn’t risk him,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

Watson replied: “No, they won’t. He’s either ready to play or he’s not ready to play.

“If he’s ready, yeah (I would play him).

“If you’re satisfied that he’s done everything he needs to do, his body’s sound again, they need somebody like him playing in that team.

“What a shot of excitement it might provide for that group too.”

Curnow, 24, kicked seven goals in his last full game against the Western Bulldogs in Round 13, 2019.
