Adelaide free agent not in any rush with new contract

2021-07-21T17:44+10:00

Adelaide defender Jake Kelly is happy for his contract discussions to take place after the season if that’s how things play out.

The 26-year-old has played 16 games so far this season and 106 total for the Crows and is an unrestricted free agent.

“We’re working through (the contract talks) at the moment,” Kelly told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“That’ll be something that we’ll work through over the coming weeks and into the end of the season.

“That’s progressing okay and going in the right track.

“I’m not the type of person to get too fussed about it all, when it happens it happens. I don’t really concern myself with it overly.

“If it happens at the end of the year then that’s fine with me.”

The Crows have struggled since the bye, losing to West Coast, Essendon, Brisbane and Carlton.

Kelly believes the inconsistency comes with having a young squad.

“It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what it is,” he said.

“When you have got a young list and a young group of players in the 22, there’s going to be ups and downs in form and there’s going to be lessons that need to be taught and at the moment we’re teaching some really good lessons to older blokes and younger blokes alike on how we need to play and getting that consistency.

“We’ve proven we can do it here and there, but the good teams and the more experienced teams do it every week and that’s what you need to do to make finals and inevitably win premierships.”

Adelaide will host Hawthorn at Marvel Stadium this weekend, due to the lockdown in South Australia and the state’s restrictions on the club training.

They touched down in Victoria yesterday and will be free to train and prepare once they receive a negative COVID test.
