Passionate Bellamy knows when his time will be up as head coach

2021-07-29T10:22+10:00

Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy says his “passion” is still there to keep coaching at a high level after penning his new deal.

The 61-year-old’s contract extension runs for five years, which will see him coach the side for at least one more season before deciding on a yearly basis whether to continue or step into an advisory role.

With Bellamy’s trademark being that he’s fully committed to his role, he knows that once that waivers his time will be up.

“I’m getting on a little bit now,” Bellamy said on SEN’s Whateley.

“My strength has always been that I don’t think I’m a genius of the game or that I know everything or have an answer to everything with how the team’s going or how we can improve and what each individual needs to do.

“For me to pick all that stuff up, it takes a bit more time than a lot of other people.

“My greatest strength is that I’m willing to put the effort and willing to put the time in to do whatever I need to do to help the team as a whole.

“While ever I’ve still got the I suppose mentality and the passion to continue to put the hours and the effort in, I’ll always be able to get the job done.

“As soon as I start doubting that or start taking shortcuts in those areas, then it’ll be time to move sideways then.”

The three-time premiership coach will look to earn his fourth this season as the Storm sits on top of the NRL ladder with six weeks remaining in the home and away season.
