A big issue for the NRL right now is determining the venue for the Grand Final.
The first goal is to host the event at a venue that can hold the most number of spectators.
Sydney, sadly is no hope it would seem. Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane had been the favourite, that was until Saturday such was the extreme snap-lockdown.
The MCG in Melbourne is definitely firming in the betting, made even more attractive by the fact the Melbourne Storm are premiership favourites, but Melbourne is the city that has had more lockdown than any other city in Australia.
You do remember, we were due to play State of Origin I there this year, then it was cancelled.
How could you, two months out, say for sure and certain Melbourne’s clear.
I have my fingers crossed for them, I hope we’re all in a better shape and better place in two months’ time.
What guarantees could the NRL be possibly given. I don’t know if we’ll know where the NRL Grand Final will be played until the semi-finals have been played.
I don’t have the answer on this one, but maybe the time has come to contact the New Zealand government to suggest and talk through how a Grand Final at Eden Park in Auckland work.
Would two teams be able to fly-in and fly-out for the Grand Final decider?
I reckon if you put Grand Final tickets on sale in Auckland today, they would be gone by lunch time.
I put it out there today, and make an exemption to their bubble on this one, is Auckland a viable alternative?
Is there any city in this part of the league playing world right now that would have more certainty around it than Auckland?
A good venue, full house assured, and rugby league fans over there are certainly owed one.
They haven’t had a Warriors game in over two years in New Zealand.
I reckon we can work around the time difference, an 8 o’clock kick off over there would be 6 o’clock over here.
I reckon it’s worth more than a thought, but the planning would have to start now.
Extraordinary times across two seasons, maybe it’s time for an extraordinary decision from the NRL.
