The “added layer of complexity” behind AFL's investigation into Taylor Walker

2021-08-04T19:15+10:00

Sportsday co-host Sam McClure has provided added detail into his story which alleges Taylor Walker made a racial slur at a SANFL game.

The alleged incident occurred at quarter time of a game between Adelaide and North Adelaide, according to the report in The Age.

McClure said there was an “added layer” of complexity around the incident because it occurred between Walker and a fellow player in North Adelaide’s Robbie Young.

“The AFL integrity unit is looking into it and taking it very seriously,” he said on Sportsday.

“They take it very seriously when it happens from a spectator to a player and this is an added layer of complexity when it’s a player to a player.

“Robbie Young is the player who was allegedly talked about, he was over a couple of hundred metres away in the North Adelaide huddle. They didn’t hear it and didn’t originally complain, it was heard in the Adelaide huddle and that’s where it comes from.

“It’s upset a lot of people, including quite a few players at Adelaide.”

The Crows will take on Port Adelaide in the Showdown on Saturday night, where it’s expected Walker will play at this stage.
