Sailing gold medallist Matt Belcher will carry Australia’s flag at the Tokyo 2020 Closing Ceremony, AOC chef de mission Ian Chesterman announced on Saturday.
Belcher became a two-time Olympic gold medallist this week, winning the men’s 470 class alongside Will Ryan with a race to spare.
It’s his third Olympic medal, having won gold in London as well as picking up silver in Rio.
COVID restrictions means the nation’s swim team as well as most other athletes have already left Tokyo, meaning the likes of Emma McKeon, Ariarne Titmus and Jess Fox were never in the running for the coveted honour.
Around 70 Australian athletes will enter the Olympic Stadium on Sunday night, with the Closing Ceremony to begin at 9pm AEST.
