Upset win tells story of “inconsistent” St Kilda’s “wasted season”

2021-08-08T15:56+10:00

After losing their must-win clash with Carlton last Friday, St Kilda were able to respond emphatically just six days later to upset Sydney 93-64 at Marvel Stadium.

While they were able to take the four points, many may view it as too little, too late, for the Saints who remain in 11th position with just two rounds remaining.

Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes is one of those who believes the win will count for nothing after he described their campaign as a “wasted season”.

“Terrific performance from St Kilda, but once again I’m just so confused as to why they deliver inconsistent performances,” Cornes said on AFL.com.au’s The Round So Far.

“It must be so frustrating to see the rubbish they served up last week (against Carlton) to that and beating a side that was playing top four footy.

“Yes, they weren’t in the top four Sydney, but many people thought they were a real shot to win the premiership.

“To deliver that within a week is so confusing and as we’ve said repeatedly on this show, what a wasted season it is for St Kilda.

“They’re much better than their results have shown.”

With a record of 9-11 after 20 games, the Saints will need to win their final two games against Geelong and Fremantle and hope other results fall their way to feature in September.
