“Ash Taylor isn’t on their radar”: Canberra make call on off-contract Titan

2021-08-11T09:08+10:00

While rumours have circled in recent weeks, the Canberra Raiders reportedly won’t make a move for Gold Coast’s Ash Taylor this off-season.

With the 26-year-old coming out of contract this season, it’s expected he could be signed for just $250-300k for 2023, a fraction of his former $1 million per season contract with the Titans.

With a cut priced deal being reported, The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio was asked whether the Raiders would make a play for Taylor in the coming weeks.

“It’s a no,” Riccio replied on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“I spoke to Raiders officials yesterday, and this is going to be an ongoing decision making process for what they’re going to do with their halves.

“With Sam Williams being their current number seven, and really the only number seven with NRL experience to keep going forward, they need a replacement in their eyes.

“However, I can tell you Ash Taylor isn’t on their radar.

“I understand Ricky Stuart’s got a press opportunity today, I think he’ll address that.”

The Gold Coast haven’t yet decided if they’ll make an attempt to re-sign Taylor after his form has improved in recent weeks.

The playmaker has scored 17 tries in 112 games for the Broncos and Titans since making his NRL debut in 2015.
