Tribunal hands down Greene verdict

2021-08-10T19:04+10:00

GWS star Toby Greene has had his two-match ban for striking downgraded to one match by the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.

The Giants appealed Greene’s suspension for a high elbow on Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield during Friday night’s match at GMHBA Stadium, with the impact downgraded from high to medium.

Match Review Officer Michael Christian originally graded Greene’s fend as careless conduct, high contact and high impact with the Giants describing the incident as a “football action”.

Dangerfield was subbed out at quarter time and sent to hospital but was later cleared of any significant injury.

Greene will now miss the eighth-placed Giants’ must-win clash with Richmond this weekend in what is a massive blow to the club who earlier on Tuesday announced Josh Kelly was staying put.
