Richmond star expected to escape AFL sanction over “pub crawl”

2021-08-16T15:32+10:00

Dion Prestia is expected to escape AFL sanction after a photo appeared to show him at the Richmond “pub crawl” on Saturday night.

The photo, posted to Instagram, shows Prestia and his housemates in a group shot titled “crawling from pub to pub”.

The midfielder has explained his actions to Richmond officials in stressing his innocence, who have relayed that information to the AFL.

Prestia’s management insist no breach of protocols took place.

It is said Prestia walked 500m from his front door to get a takeaway dinner in Richmond, before posing for the photo with friends. He was not involved in the pub crawl that has been heavily criticised by Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton.

There has not been any suggestion Prestia breached Victoria’s COVID-19 laws in lockdown, but AFL players are prohibited from attending venues where they cannot socially distance as part of strict protocols to protect the competition.
