Alastair Clarkson "firming" for Carlton job in 2022

2021-08-24T19:27+10:00

Fox Footy reporter Tom Morris believes Alastair Clarkson is slowly becoming more open to the possibility of coaching Carlton in 2022.

The four-time Hawthorn premiership coach finished his glittering stint at the club last weekend and has constantly maintained his desire to take a year off from the game before assessing his options in 2023.

But Morris is now reporting that Clarkson could sensationally be "firming" for the Blues job, as the club delays a decision on whether to part ways with David Teague.

“Alastair Clarkson is more open to coaching next year then perhaps he was even a week or a few days ago,” he revealed on Sportsday.

“On that basis, he would have to be firming for the Carlton job. We know that things can changed and this can move pretty quicky, but if Clarkson wants that Carlton job, it is his.

“I’m told Clarkson is now more open to it than he was (previously). It may not be the best news for David Teague, but clearly it’s what Carlton is gunning for.

"If they can get Clarkson, it might mean the last few weeks of pain are worth it.”

Carlton has still yet to make a call on Teague’s future, following a season which saw them finish in 13th spot on the ladder with eight wins.
