Justin Leppitsch responds to Collingwood assistant coaching report

2021-08-31T09:29+10:00

Justin Leppitsch has responded to reports that he will join a Collingwood coaching staff led by Craig McRae for the 2022 season.

The Age reported on Monday that McRae is eager for Leppitsch to join him at the Magpies in a senior assistant role.

“Three of my great mates Adam Kingsley, Craig McRae and Michael Voss are going for this job so I was always put in a pretty precarious position commenting on it and if any one of them got the position there’s a chance I’d be attached to them (by the media) and there’s a chance that will happen,” Leppitsch told SEN's Whateley.

“But when and if, I haven’t had any in-depth conversations with Collingwood per se, I’ve had a lot of in-depth conversations with Adam and Craig and those guys about them going for this job and helping them out with presentations and what to look for and all those sorts of things because I’ve experienced it.

“The other part, that might be down the track, but nothing to report right now.”

Leppitsch’s experience includes a stint as Brisbane coach and being a key part of Richmond’s three premierships as an assistant coach.

He left the Tigers at the end of 2020 for a year away from football, working in the media for SEN and Channel 7.
