Tom Lynch yet to decide between continuing AFL career or moving into coaching

2021-09-02T08:54+10:00

Delisted Adelaide veteran Tom Lynch isn’t yet entirely sure whether he wants to play on in the AFL or move straight into coaching.

Lynch hopes to have a lengthy career in the industry and has served as part of the Crows’ AFLW coaching panel previously, but is still playing good enough footy to warrant an AFL contract in 2022.

The 30-year-old finished the 2021 season averaging 25 disposals and six marks per game across the final three weeks, but was unable to win a new contract with the Crows.

Lynch said he has to think over what the best option is for him and his family after a decade in Adelaide.

“It's interesting as you finish, a few opportunities pop up. I've certainly got some decisions to make. I'm really passionate about moving into coaching at some point, but whether that’s right now or in the future, I’m unsure about,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“I’ve got to take the time to work through that. Certainly watching finals footy gives you that desire to keep on playing that’s for sure.”

Lynch added that it is possible he could choose a coaching role over a playing role.

“It depends what those opportunities are. If a really good coaching opportunity popped up and that was the pathway forward for me as opposed to a year somewhere, that would give me something to think about for sure,” he said.

“A playing career might be the best option as well even if it is one year. We’ve got some decisions to make, me and my family, and we’ll see what plays out.”

Lynch has 164 career games to his name, 158 for the Crows and six for St Kilda.
