The club “in the box seat” to win the premiership

Port Adelaide is “in the box seat” to win the premiership after beating Geelong in last week’s Qualifying Final, according to former AFL recruiter Matt Rendell.

The Power will host a home Preliminary Final at Adelaide Oval on September 11 against either Brisbane or the Western Bulldogs for a spot in this year’s Grand Final in Perth.

With a near full list to choose from and on a run of seven straight wins, Rendell has declared Port his premiership favourite.

“The team that’s in the box seat (to win the flag) is Port Adelaide,” Rendell told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“They get the Lions or Bulldogs at home in front of their crowd and if they have to play Melbourne or Geelong, probably Melbourne, they play on a neutral ground (Optus Stadium).

“If they had them playing at the MCG with all those MCC members, they’re all Melbourne supporters.

“Port look like a team that would love to play on Optus Stadium, so they’re in the box seat to win the flag.

“I think they’ve got the betting around the wrong way for the flag. I would have Port as favourites.”

Port Adelaide is chasing a second AFL premiership and their first since 2004.
