Bob Murphy to depart SEN for Fremantle role

2021-09-07T15:06+10:00

Bob Murphy has announced he will be leaving his role at SEN to take up the Head of Football Operations and Performance position at the Fremantle Football Club.

The former Western Bulldogs captain will finish his post as co-host of SEN Drive with Bob & Andy in mid-October before moving with his family to Perth to take up the role with the Dockers.

A champion of 312 games with the Bulldogs and a beloved member of the SEN family, Murphy will return to clubland where he will work with both the AFL and AFLW programs at Freo.

“I am really excited,” he said on SEN’s Bob & Andy.

“The magnetic pull of footy just got stronger and stronger.

“I’ve loved doing this, I really have. Everyone told me when I went in to media that it was not a team game.

“I do mean this sincerely, but I’ve loved the team and the little world we’ve built. I’ve loved just about every minute of it.”

Murphy will link up with ex-Dogs teammates Simon Garlick (CEO) and Matthew Boyd (assistant coach) at the Dockers.

He was a regular contributor for Garry Lyon and Tim Watson on SEN Breakfast before becoming a central figure at the network alongside Maher in 2019.

Fremantle GM of Football Peter Bell welcomed Murphy in a statement released by the club.

“We are delighted to welcome Bob into both our AFL and AFLW programs in the role of Head of Football and High Performance,” Bell said.

“It was clear how highly valued and respected he was at the Western Bulldogs and these leadership traits will be especially important at Fremantle as we look to foster the development of our young and talented AFL and AFLW lists.

“It’s especially important to the Club that Bob has been an incredible advocate of the AFL Women’s competition and we are excited about him bringing that passion to Fremantle ahead of Season Six commencing in January.”
