Dagg's top five most electrifying rugby players of all-time

2021-09-15T08:40+10:00

Former All Black Izzy Dagg has listed the top five most electric rugby players he has seen in his lifetime.

Dagg was set the difficult task of listing the most electrifying and exciting players of all-time and came up with some fairly impressive names.

“It’s hard, we’ve had so many unbelievable players that have play the game and I was lucky enough to pay against a couple of them,” Dagg said on SENZ Breakfast.

“So this is my list.”

Lelia Masaga

“Lelia Masaga is on my list.

“He played for the Chiefs, Counties Manukau, (he was an) unbelievable talent.

“So skilful, quick (with) ball in hand, could move sideways at rapid pace, he was so good at what he did.”

Bryan Habana

“Bryan Habana was just so fast and so good at what he did, lightning quick out on the field.

“Wasn’t hugely athletic agility wise, wasn’t a big ‘hot-stepper’ like these current players at the moment, but his ability to just whack off the right and left foot and stay at the same pace was great.”

Joe Rokocoko

“Joe Rokocoko, I just remember watching him score five tries in Australia in that Sydney test.

“I vividly remember watching that game with some friends. Joe Rokocoko will go down as one of the greats in All Black rugby.”

Christian Cullen

“Christian Cullen, he’s my all-time favourite player ever.

“He defined the game, he changed the game and just watching him score some of those tries.

“The one in the (rugby) sevens when he was playing against Fiji, I think he ran 100 metres and scored the try. Stepped about three or four players, so good.”

Rupeni Caucaunibuca

“But my all-time was Rupeni Caucaunibuca, played for the Blues and played for Fiji.

“I don’t think we saw the best of him, he obviously hit the ground running, unbelievable what he did. So, so quick and scored the most freakish of tries. Lucky enough I didn’t have to defend him. Thank goodness I didn’t have to mark him one on one, that would have been a nightmare in itself.

“Rupeni Caucaunibuca would have to be the top of my list, just the way he played the game. He just oozes time, so fast, his ability to step sideways, both feet and stay at top pace was unbelievable.

“So Rupeni Caucaunibuca would have to be top of my list for the most electric player ever.”
