Izzy Dagg's “unbelievable” pre-game hair ritual

2021-09-15T09:47+10:00

All Blacks prop Joe Moody has shed some light on the interesting pre-game habits of former teammate Izzy Dagg.

The pair played together in the All Blacks jersey from Moody’s debut in 2014 to Dagg’s final test in 2017.

They only roomed together once during their time and it was certainly an experience Moody hasn’t forgotten.

“One quick story that I’ll never forget paying with Daggy,” Moody told SENZ Breakfast.

“I roomed with him once, which isn’t the norm because forwards room with (other) forwards and that.

“Anyway, before we had to go out on the bus, Daggy had his hair straightener out. It was before he got his lid sorted out and he was straightening the big long flaps (of hair) over his wee bald spots at the front.

“I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing but that was Daggy’s pre-game ritual. It was unbelievable, I don’t know If I’d seen it anywhere before, I just couldn’t believe a man bought hair straighteners to start off with.”

Dagg fessed up to Moody’s claims and admitted that his secret may have done more harm than good when it was time to take the pitch.

“I had to steal Daisy’s hair straightener, take it away with me, straighten my hair,” Dagg said.

“The worst thing about it is I’d straighten it, then spray it so it was cemented down to cover the bald spots, it was like concrete on top.

“Once I started playing and started sweating it was like Batman was playing as well because the little flaps actually poked up like two little ears into the sky.”
