Ex-Kangaroos coach at centre of AFL restructure

2021-09-16T12:30+10:00

Brad Scott has joined the AFL under a widespread restructure of the league’s football department.

Former North Melbourne coach Scott, who had been linked to the vacant Carlton coaching position, will move to AFL House in the newly-created role of General Manager – Football.

North Melbourne’s head of football operations Laura Kane has been appointed as General Manager – Competition Management.

Scott and Kane will report to Andrew Dillon, who will be made the permanent Executive General Manager – Football under a revised portfolio including Football Operations, Legal and Integrity.

AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan communicated the changes to club presidents this morning.

Dillon, Scott and Kane will join Nicole Livingstone (General Manager – Women’s Football) and Kate Hall (Head of Mental Health and Wellbeing) in leading the administration in the wake of Steve Hocking’s departure to Geelong.

“The last few months have been incredibly challenging for our competition, both on and off the field and Andrew has led the football department team brilliantly as we have navigated through these unprecedented circumstances,” McLachlan wrote.

“Andrew’s experience, expertise and resilience, along with his industry relationships, paired with the other key appointments, is a dynamic mix and he is bets placed to lead this newly formed and diverse football operations team and spread the load in what has been an increasingly bigger role.”
