Wallabies rocket to number three in the world with Springboks victory

2021-09-19T11:21+10:00

The Wallabies were too good for the Springboks on Saturday night in Brisbane with a convincing 30-17 win.

In front of a 40,000 strong crowd, the Wallabies overcame the world champions scoring four tries to one in a strong display.

Young star Len Ikitau crossed over for a brace while winger Marika Koroibete scored two of his own.

The victory marks the first time the Wallabies have won back-to-back games under Dave Rennie, with Saturday’s performance following up last week’s 28-26 win over the same opponent on the Gold Coast.

The head coach said he was glad his side took their opportunities.

“We wanted to back up last week’s performance with another strong performance and I thought we did that,” Rennie told reporters.

“We defended well, our defensive maul was much better, we just couldn’t get our hands on the ball for the second 20 minutes of the game; we talked a lot about discipline.

“But I thought we were clinical and against New Zealand we created lots of opportunities but we turned it over and were punished and tonight we were good enough to take those opportunities.”

The win moves the Wallabies to third in the world rankings, while also securing the side the Mandela Challenge Plate.
