“If it was out of those two, I think they may choose Michael Voss”: Cornes

Carlton’s decision on their senior coaching position is reportedly down to two options, Adam Kingsley and Michael Voss.

Kingsley and Voss are both in the mix to land the number one job at Carlton, as the Blues hope to rejuvenate the club's poor record in recent seasons.

Two of the most highly respected coaching figures in the AFL, Kingsley and Voss have an extensive coaching resume that will certainly attract the attention of the Carlton board.

Kingsley has been an assistant coach with Port Adelaide (2007-10), St Kilda (2011-18) and more recently Richmond (2019-present).

Meanwhile Voss coached the Brisbane Lions from 2009-13, before moving onto an assistant coaching role with Port Adelaide in 2015.

Tim Watson asked Kane Cornes on SEN Breakfast which coach he believes Carlton will acquire.

“They have got down to the final two or three on their coaching search as well, Michael Voss is one of those, Adam Kingsley is another, which direction do you think they will go?” Watson said.

To which Cornes replied: “(Kingsley) has a great footy resume, really strong football person, and then Vossy is Vossy.

“If it was out of those two, I think they (Carlton) may choose Michael Voss.”

“I think he has done a great amount of work not only coaching but also in the leadership space and every club is about connection now and how you connect with the group and let each other be their own personality, and I think he has done a power of work on that.”

With Alastair Clarkson and Ross Lyon withdrawing from the senior coaching position, along with Brad Scott accepting the General Manager of Football position at the AFL, Carlton’s choices are quickly reducing.

Could Voss be the man to turn the Blues around?

“He’s got the aura,” Cornes said.

“Certainly from a leadership (point of view), from an aura, from when he talks you listen, (and) can command the attention of the room, I’d love to see him get another opportunity, he will be much better second time round.”

Tim Watson added: “The intel on Voss is that he’s a very good relationship builder around a football club, he really understands the mechanics of that.”

Former Blues coach David Teague was sacked last month following an independent football department review.

Carlton is expected to make an announcement in the coming weeks on their coaching status as they look to make finals in season 2022.
