How West Coast plans to use Sam Petrevski-Seton

2021-09-22T19:30+10:00

West Coast coach Adam Simpson sees incoming new recruit Sam Petrevski-Seton as a potential mid-forward, despite Carlton playing him as a defender in recent years.

Petrevski-Seton requested a trade back to Western Australia earlier this week, nominating the Eagles as his club of choice after five seasons at the Blues.

Speaking for the first time since the trade request landed, Simpson said he saw the 23-year-old’s position further up the field.

“Mid-forward is probably where he belongs,” he said on Sportsday.

“I know he went down back at the Blues so for us, it’s all for us to work with and see how it feels.

“I think having the flexibility at the moment is a good thing, but getting his settled is the priority, There’s a lot of water under the bridge until we worry about (where’s here’s playing).

Simpson said the club would work through the negotiations to bring him to the club in the coming weeks, with both teams still to thrash out the details of the deal.

“We still have to work through (things),” he said.

“I wasn’t involved (with him) a lot to be honest, we got an indication that Sam (Petrevski-Seton) was looking to get home and we’re more than happy to oblige so we’ll let the two clubs work through that so hopefully we can get what Sam wants and what we want.”
