Report: Lynch to join Roos on player-coach deal

2021-09-26T15:46+10:00

North Melbourne have reportedly secured delisted Adelaide forward Tom Lynch for 2022 in a coaching role.

AFL.com.au believe Lynch will move to the Roos as a development coach with the potential to add him to the club’s playing list as a rookie.

If the 31-year-old is added to the club’s rookie list, it will allow his wages to be paid outside of the football department cap despite his coaching role.

Additionally, his addition as a rookie will allow him to be picked in AFL games if necessary.

While his main role will be as a coach, Lynch proved at the back end of this season that he still has what it takes as a player at the top level, averaging 25 disposals in his last three matches with the Crows.

It is believed Lynch will be used in a similar role to Port Adelaide development coach Tyson Goldsack who in 2021 was rookie listed and appeared in SANFL games.

If Lynch is to be placed on the playing list he will need to nominate for the draft and be selected as a rookie.

According to AFL.com.au, rookies have roughly the first $85,000 of their wage paid outside the salary cap, with any extra money included in the cap.
