Saints urged to ask Power about contracted pair

2021-09-28T11:34+10:00

Nick Dal Santo has urged St Kilda to ask Port Adelaide about the availability of contracted pair Peter Ladhams and Tom Clurey in a bid to strengthen their ruck and defensive stocks.

Ladhams, 23, has been reportedly told by the Power to explore his options this off-season, while Clurey, 27, has also been mentioned in trade circles.

Ladhams (2022) and Clurey (2023) are both under contract for next year.

The Saints hold picks 9, 46, 64 in this year’s draft and are reportedly looking to add to their draft hand during the trade period.

“If I’m St Kilda, I’m asking and speaking to Port Adelaide about (Peter) Ladhams and (Tom) Clurey,” ex-Saint Dal Santo told AFL Trade Radio’s Trade Mornings.

“I’d ask them about both. There’s no risk in posing the question. There’s no risk in finding out where Port Adelaide sees them.

“They openly need a key defender the Saints. Now whether Clurey fits the definition of a key defender, there’s only probably a handful of the Steven May-types.

“I think they need to ask that question.

“Clearly there’s a price attached to it, but if I was the Saints, I’d be asking about Ladhams and Clurey and just seeing what the options are.”

Ladhams made 17 senior appearances in 2021, including Port Adelaide’s two finals.

Clurey, who signed a four-year deal in 2019, was overlooked at selection for the Power’s finals campaign.
