Delisted Blue Casboult keen to continue AFL career

2021-09-29T10:39+10:00

Levi Casboult insists he would love the opportunity to play at AFL level again.

The 31-year-old departed Carlton last month having not been offered a new contract for 2022 and beyond.

Casboult, who played 154 games over 12 seasons with the Blues, has been linked with both the Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns and says there is some interest at this early stage.

“I’m only 31 so hopefully (I’ve got) a couple of years left in the body,” he said on SEN Breakfast.

“But not any idea yet. There’s a couple of teams sniffing around, but obviously there’s a bit to eventuate in the next couple of weeks.”

Pressed on which clubs are showing interest, Casboult stopped short of naming names but did indicate the teams bandied around in media circles may or may not be correct.

“I guess generally where there’s smoke, there’s fire,” he added.

“Generally the media get their facts from somewhere.

“But they’re only very preliminary (talks). Recruiting a 30-plus-year-old is low on the priorities initially in the trade weeks.”

Casboult believes he still has some good footy to play even in his early 30s and would jump at a second chance if it came his way.

“I think I’ve got plenty to offer whether it be for a short time or a couple of years,” he said.

“I’ve got the drive to play footy at the top level and I think I’ve still got plenty to offer at the top level as well.

“If that eventuates then I’m ready to go.”

As for where the drive comes from to continue playing, the key forward says it’s a fairly simple equation.

“I still love playing footy to be honest,” Casboult said further.

“Because nothing’s guaranteed I’ve still got to sort my life outside of footy if something doesn’t happen.

“That’s what I’m looking at. I’m still looking at playing country footy just because I love playing footy.

“Obviously I’m a competitive person so if there’s the opportunity to do that at the top level, whether it be trying to win a premiership or developing young kids for the future, I just love playing footy.

“I’ve still got the drive to do that.”
