“Embarrassing and disrespectful”: The trade scenario that's left a Brownlow Medallist unhappy

2021-09-29T19:35+10:00

Brownlow Medallist Gerard Healy says it is “borderline embarrassing and disrespectful” how opposition clubs talk about in-demand Gold Coast players.

His comments come on the back of increasing speculation around gun forward Ben King’s future, with the 21-year-old coming out of contract at the end of 2022.

St Kilda CEO Matt Finnis recently openly expressed the club’s desire to reunite Ben with his twin brother Max at the Saints in future years, with Healy left unimpressed about how some Gold Coast players are spoken about publicly.

“It’s amazing,” he said on Sportsday.

“I don’t hear anybody from another club talking about players from anywhere else other than Gold Coast (discussing) who’s on their radar.

“Nobody is hearing about a player at Collingwood who is on a club's radar, it’s borderline embarrassing and disrespectful.

“To me this particular one… a club 12 months out is saying (Ben King) is on their radar.”

Despite kicking 47 goals for the Suns in 2021, King missed the top 10 of the club’s best and fairest award.

Both Ben and Max were taken in the top 10 of the 2018 National Draft.
