Collingwood provides updates on Cox, Sier, Lynch, De Goey, Moore and Maynard

2021-09-30T11:50+10:00

Collingwood GM of Football Graham Wright has provided updates on the futures of Mason Cox, Brayden Sier and Max Lynch.

Cox, Sier and Lynch are all without contracts for next year as the Magpies mull over whether to offer the trio new deals.

Wright also gave the latest on where contract talks sit with star trio Jordan De Goey, Darcy Moore and Brayden Maynard.

See Wright’s updates below:

Mason Cox and Max Lynch

“I think ‘Coxy’ has got the ability to play in a few different spots being nearly seven foot tall,” Wright told AFL Trade Radio’s Trade Mornings.

“He’s 210cm so for someone like him he wants to play more in the ruck and feels he could contribute there as well

“It’s fair to say he wasn’t in our team much in the back-half of the year and we haven’t re-signed him, so there’s a few things we’ve got to work through in the trade period as to whether we offer Coxy another contract, but I wouldn’t rule it out.

“We’ve got him and Max Lynch … rucks are hard to find, and tall players seem to last forever, there’s always a spot for them.

“So from that perspective, we certainly haven’t ruled out that both those guys could be with us next year.”

Nick Dal Santo asked: “Has Mason said that he wants to stay at the Pies?”

Wright replied: “I think he would like to, but I think like everyone else who is playing AFL footy and has turned 30, he wants to play.

“That has been in the conversations he’s had with me, and I know he had some conversations with Craig (McRae) before he went back to the States. He wants to play in the team and get opportunity like everyone at that age, he doesn’t want to be just a back-up.

“From that perspective, I think he’s open-minded about being with us and in a perfect world he’d like to be with us, but he wants to play as well.”

Brayden Sier

“He’s one of the players like Coxy (Mason Cox) who we haven’t offered anything to, and we wanted to wait until we got through the trade period to see exactly where it sits for us.

“Some of that’s a little bit to do with list spots, there’s a whole range of different things that come up about why you haven’t contracted guys.

“It would be fair to say that ‘Bear’ is in his fifth year at the club and hasn’t been able to nail a spot where it sits right at the moment.

“We’ll carry him through the trade period and see where it sits after that as to whether there’s a spot for him.”

Jordan De Goey, Darcy Moore and Brayden Maynard

“I’ve had conversations with all their managers and we’re really hopeful of progressing contracts with them.

“It’s unique that you’ve got three high-profile guys coming out of contract next year, but they’re all unique in their own way and they’re all super talented.

“So from our perspective, it’s important that we try and tie them up and I think they’re all open to that and keen.

“But as we know, it’s a commercial business and we’ve got to be able to satisfy them and hopefully we can do that.”
