Report: North Melbourne in talks to land fringe Sun and top draft pick in salary dump deal

2021-10-01T19:01+10:00

North Melbourne and Gold Coast are in talks to seal a ‘salary dump’ deal which would see Darcy Macpherson and pick 19 land at Arden Street, according to AFL Media.

In what would be an innovative transaction, the report states Gold Coast would land a future second or third-round selection in exchange for MacPherson and an the end of first-round pick.

The deal would allow MacPherson to start afresh at a new club, with North Melbourne set to pay the majority of his salary.

The half forward has struggled for game time at the Suns, only playing 23 games in the last two seasons.

Gold Coast has been active already during the off-season, signing Richmond forward/ruck Mabior Chol as an unrestricted free agent on Friday, with the Tigers receiving an end of second round pick as compensation.

In other early free agency moves, Adelaide defender Jake Kelly has signed with Essendon, while Carlton has offered Sydney restricted free agent George Hewett a deal.
