Star Crow impressed with trade target after West Lakes tour

Adelaide star Rory Laird has told SEN SA Breakfast he met with trade target Jordan Dawson, after the wantaway Swan requested a move back to his home state of South Australia.

Laird was open when discussing the meeting, explaining how he welcomed Dawson to the club’s West Lakes facilities after the Swans’ season ended in an Elimination Final loss to rivals GWS.

“I did meet up with him (Dawson) after the season and he came to the club for a chat and a meeting, I showed him around a little bit, and I think he did the same at Port the next day, so it was fantastic to see him choose us,” Laird said.

“I have full confidence in us to be able to get a deal done and secure a super talented player that just came off a career best season … now it’s in the hands of the list managers of Sydney and Adelaide.”

The 182-game Crow was full of praise for Dawson, who finished third in Sydney’s best and fairest this year.

“He’s determined, he has really high expectations of himself, this year he played to a (high) level and he’s really excited and keen to be able to keep doing that consistently,” Laird said.

“He’s obviously got the polish, and (his) outside kicking ability is something that we need … (he’s) definitely got the potential to come inside (mid) as well, so it’s a pretty nice mix in there.”

Dawson was drafted to the Swans with pick 56 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft and is expected to be traded for a high first-round pick.
