Two clubs meet with contracted Power ruckman

2021-10-06T12:19+11:00

Hawthorn and Sydney have held talks with Port Adelaide ruckman Peter Ladhams, reports SEN’s Sam Edmund.

Ladhams’ future at the Power is in doubt after he was told to explore his options during this year’s trade period with a year to run on his contract.

At this stage, no formal offer has been put forward to the 23-year-old after he recently met with the Hawks and Swans via Zoom.

“Peter Ladhams is such an interesting case. He continues to meet with clubs,” Edmund told SEN Breakfast.

“The Power are looking to move him on before the final year of his back-ended contract.

“He’s had Zoom meetings with Hawthorn and Sydney. Charlie Gardiner (Swans GM) told us yesterday (Tuesday) that Ladhams was again an option for the second year running.

“They did come hard for him last year in the Aliir Aliir trade. That’s in the mix.

“To be honest with you, I reckon that (moving to Hawthorn) is more likely to happen than Sydney.”

Power GM of Football Chris Davies told Trade Radio that Ladhams will stay at Alberton if a satisfactory deal cannot be reached.

“I think in fairness to Pete, he’s looking to get more ruck time. We’re probably saying at the moment we’ve got Scott Lycett ahead of him,” Davies said.

“That’s not to say we don’t think Pete can be a real significant player and as you say he’s contracted to us.

“So unless there’s a proper outcome for both parties then I would suggest right now that Peter is going to be at Port Adelaide next year.

Ladhams has played 32 games for Port Adelaide.

As things stand, Hawthorn currently has picks 5, 21, 24, 59, 65 and 81 in this year's draft.

Sydney holds picks 12, 31, 39, 70 and 80.
