The top draft prospects Essendon could select with pick 11

2021-10-13T14:35+11:00

Essendon is poised to take pick 11 to this year’s national draft, looking to build on a list which qualified for finals in 2021.

The Bombers are still on the lookout for an extra forward to support the likes of Harry Jones and Peter Wright, while they’d also be eyeing a taller midfielder to compliment Darcy Parish and Zach Merrett.

Draft guru Callum Twomey the likes of winger Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, midfielder Neil Erasmus or West Australian forward Jye Amiss could all be in the club’s sights with their first round selection.

“The Bombers have been trying desperately hard to get back in the second round of this year’s draft,” he said on AFL Trade Radio’s Trade Exchange.

“They’ve been trying to work their way up the board with a future selection. As for pick 11, they’re in an interesting spot.

“I don’t see Josh Rachele being available at that point, I think he’s gone inside the top 10 so who they pick up is a fascinating one as they have a few slots to fill clearly.

“Is it Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, who would be a nice selection for them to add on the wing opposition Nik Cox, who was the draftee from last year.

“Is Josh Sinn worth considering at that point? Is Neil Erasmus still on the board? Personally I think Erasmus would be a great fit for what Essendon have and don’t have, he’s a tall midfielder who could be a protector to some of the smaller guys in there, even though they’re a bit older than him.

“Then there’s forward Jye Amiss, if he got through a couple of Fremantle picks and West Coast, as a key forward you’d be pretty hard-pressed to pass him up from a Bombers perspective.”
