Sam Walsh has capped his stellar breakout season by taking home his first Carlton best and fairest.
Walsh led from start to finish to take home the John Nicholls Medal, but only narrowly edged out Jacob Weitering in second place.
Coleman Medallist Harry McKay round out the top three, with Patrick Cripps, Ed Curnow and Adam Saad in the top six.
Despite playing only 15 games and dealing with multiple injuries across the season, Jack Silvagni’s year was rewarded with a 10th placed finish.
Eddie Betts finished ninth after being asked to retire by the Blues. A similar fate that befell Kade Simpson 12 months ago.
Walsh’s win added to his list of 2021 accolades, including an All-Australian berth and runner-up in the AFLPA MVP award.
The B&F marked the official end of the David Teague, Mark LoGiudice and Cain Liddle era at Carlton, with coach Michael Voss, president Luke Sayers and CEO Brian Cook now taking the reins.
