Midweek racing once again at Ipswich this afternoon. The track is rated a soft (5) following just under 2mm of rain overnight & there is a chance of a shower today with a forecast max of 28 degrees, should that rain not arrive an upgrade is possible.
BEST BETS
Race 6 # 10 FESTIVAL PRINCE
Lightly raced Toowoomba galloper who looked very good winning at Warwick last start going to the line with plenty left under the bonnet.
He beat Go Wandji on that occasion which is a terrific formline with that horse winning very impressively at Doomben last Saturday.
Confident he can make it 4 wins from 5 starts this afternoon.
Race 7 # 9 SOUTHERN ROCK
Another lightly raced type who shows plenty of promise.
Trainer Chris Munce stepped him up in distance two starts back & the result was a dominant Eagle Farm 1800m win when working until reaching the lead around the half-way mark, he then powered away in the straight to score by 7 lengths!
Sent around in a much stronger Saturday grade Benchmark 75 at his only start since he again worked in the run before beating all bar the winner Youngblood. With 55.5kg from gate one he should get the right run & prove the one to beat.
BEST VALUE
Race 1 # 9 PRICKLY POPPY
Three or four winning chances in this opening event & this one from the Paul Jenkins stable on the Sunshine Coast looks to be overs in this morning’s market.
Just the one start on her home track where she ran on well very late suggesting the step up to 1350m this afternoon is ideal. She draws a lot better than her main rivals for Michael Cahill who can give her the right run.
Something each-way.
