West Coast Eagles CEO Trevor Nisbett has confirmed the club is still hunting to align itself with a WAFL club.
It comes after Nisbett confirmed the Eagles will not enter their own side in next year’s WAFL competition, as they look to connect with a different side in the league, as the logistics surrounding player availability grew too difficult.
“We’d always prefer our own side, and if we can work through the scenario with the commission and the other WAFL clubs, hopefully we’ll get to that position quickly,” Nisbett told Sportsday WA.
“We’ve come to a dead end with that sort of scenario, and there’s lots of other scenarios people have been throwing up to us, but none of them really suit.
“(They) really suit the individual more than the club, so we are back to talking to the commission about the opportunity to continue with a WAFL team.”
West Coast’s attempt to align with WAFL club East Perth was recently rejected.
“We certainly thought that East Perth were as close as we were going to get, we had a couple of other suitors early, and we feel as though they gave all the consideration that was required, but they decided to stay put," Nisbett added.
The WAFL will operate as a nine-team league in 2022.
