Sheehan names his top three tall forward/ruck prospects in the 2021 draft

2021-10-28T15:55+11:00

AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin ‘Shifter’ Sheehan has named his top three tall forward and ruck prospects available in the upcoming AFL Draft.

The National Draft will be held over two days on November 24 and 25, with the rookie and pre-season drafts held a day later on November 26.

Sheehan says this category is even more crucial with the addition of the six-six-six rule, telling SEN’s Dwayne’s World “they’re absolutely vital.”

“I think there’s probably three top 20’s here,” he said.

Sam Darcy

Oakleigh Chargers, NAB League / Glen Iris FC / Scotch College State: Victoria (Metro) Height: 204cm Weight: 73kg Date of Birth: 19/07/03

Sheehan says: “I’ll start with one that will get a bid very early, he’s very well known to footy fans by his surname already, his surname’s Darcy and his first name Sam, he’s Luke’s son of course.”

“I’ve only seen him play five times this year, but I was very impressed.

“Not a lot of weight on him at the minute, but what about the skillset.

“We had one representative match this year when Vic Metro played Vic Country … he took a mark on the boundary line just inside 50, he’s a right-footer, unlike Dad the lefty.

“Well he swung onto his left, and from just inside the 50, slotted it dead centre.

“That’s a boy of 204cm, I just don’t think I’ve seen that on the opposite side.

“All he needs is weight.”

Jye Amiss

East Perth, WAFL / Bussellton FC State: Western Australia Height: 196cm Weight: 83kg Date of Birth: 31/07/03

Sheehan says: “A left-footer from the West, he’s an east Perth boy.”

“This is unique, he kicked 51 goals 15 points this year.

“He’ll have a massive upside this boy, he’s quick, a lefty as well and he’s team-oriented. Really gave away as many goals as he kicked, or even more.

“About 196cm, strongly built tall forward that looks to be a start of the game down the track.”

Mac Andrew

Dandenong Stingrays, NAB League / Berwick FC / St. Joseph’s Ferntree Gully State: Victoria (Country) Height: 200cm Weight: 70kg Date of Birth: 12/04/03

Sheehan says: “He’s a boy that is Next Generation Academy for Melbourne, but there are changes to the rule compared to last year.”

“If someone bids in the top 20, Melbourne can’t match the bid. He will go to the club who calls his name.

“If it’s in the 20’s or later on, they can match the bid.”

“They’d be looking at him playing thinking, ‘I hope he doesn’t go too well’, well unfortunately he went too well I reckon.

“He’s a 200cm boy, mobile, terrific mark, can play both ends of the ground and can play in the ruck, he’s an exciting prospect is young Mac Andrews.”
