The type of players the Crows should target in the draft

Kane Cornes has pinpointed the type of players Adelaide should target in this year’s National Draft.

According to Cornes, the Crows require an injection of height, versatility and speed through the midfield as they look to nail their first selection – currently pick No.4 – in November’s draft.

AFL Media’s Cal Twomey has midfielder Finn Callaghan at pick No.4 in his phantom draft, followed by on-ballers Ben Hobbs and Josh Ward at picks five and six respectively.

Adelaide’s first pick could slide due to expected bids for father-son prospects Daicos and Darcy.

“We know the first three are set – (Jason) Horne-Francis, (Nick) Daicos and Sam Darcy,” Cornes told SEN SA Breakfast.

“At four he (Twomey) has got Finn Callaghan, who is probably the best player outside of those three players.

“Adelaide have pick four in the draft – 189cm midfielder, run and carry, striking left foot and poise under pressure that caught the eye of clubs very early in the year.

“He can’t get to Adelaide though, can he? Because of the bids that are going to happen.

“Ben Hobbs is another midfielder, but I’m not exactly sure he’s what Adelaide need. He’s 183cm, inside midfielder. I know you pick the best player available, but Adelaide do not need another inside midfielder.

“Get someone with some height, some versatility and some speed through the midfield. That’s where I would be going.”

The Crows will currently take picks 4, 33, 75 and 80 to this year’s draft.
