Tyrone May has accepted a one-year deal with French club Catalans after being sacked by the Panthers last month.
May, 25, had his Penrith contract torn up after he made a post on social media referencing his 2019 conviction over four counts of intentionally recording an intimate image.
With no other NRL clubs keen to pounce on the utility, May was “grateful” that Catalans offered him a deal to play in the UK Super League next season.
“First of all, I’m very grateful for this opportunity,” May said via a club statement.
“I can’t thank the coach Steve McNamara, Alex Chan and the president Bernard Guasch enough for allowing me to come to such a great club with an amazing fan base.
“I’m eager to meet my new teammates and gain their respect by working hard to go one better this year.”
Having already signed Mitchell Pearce and Dylan Napa for next year, coach Steve McNamara says May will continue to add quality and depth to the club’s squad.
“Tyrone will add great quality, depth and competition for places within our team,” McNamara said via a statement.
“He arrives as a current Grand Final winner and his versatility and ability to play many positions to a high standard will be a huge asset for us.”
May joins the Dragons after 56 games with the Panthers from 2017 to 2021.
His last NRL game was the premiership win against South Sydney last season.
