Wallace backs Fa'asuamaleaui's claims for future Titans captaincy

2021-12-03T14:04+11:00

Gold Coast forward Jarrod Wallace is glad that Tino Fa'asuamaleaui put pen to paper to commit to the Titans until the end of the 2026 season.

Having made the finals with a relatively inexperienced squad in 2021, Wallace hopes Fa'asuamaleaui alongside his young teammates can take the club deep into September in the near future.

With the star forward flagging an interest in one day captaining the club, Wallace sees that as a realistic dream for the 21-year-old.

“It’s fantastic, guys like Tino (Fa'asuamaleaui), David (Fifita), young Mo Fotuaika, AJ Brimson and Toby Sexton, they’re the future of this club,” Wallace said on Sportsday.

“I think that’s a huge signing for the club, to get Tino for another four or five years.

“If he keeps going the way he’s going I think you know, he’s definitely down the track a potential captain of the club.

“He’s a great guy off the field, he’s a great leader on the field as well.

“He still has plenty of things to learn, plenty of room to grow, which is to me exciting to be able to watch that happen.

“He’s a 21-year-old kid, he’s 115 kilos, he’s fast, he’s aggressive and he’s angry.

“I love playing next to him and he still has room to grow, I’m glad that they’ve locked him down, he’s a big one the club needed to keep.”

Fa'asuamaleaui played 22 games for the Titans in his first season with the club.

He played 27 NRL games with the Melbourne Storm in 2019 and 2020 including last year’s premiership win over Penrith.
