Premiership Demon signs contract extension

2021-12-07T13:27+11:00

Premiership Demon Jake Bowey has re-signed with Melbourne until the end of the 2024 season.

The teenager impressed in his seven games for the club in 2021 after being taken with pick 21 in the 2020 National Draft, playing a pivotal role in the side as Melbourne broke its 57-year premiership drought.

Melbourne list manager Tim Lamb said he was thrilled to re-sign the talented small defender for a further two years, after his contract was set to expire at the end of 2022.

“We are really pleased that Jake (Bowey) has signed on for a further two seasons. He is obviously a young player, but has shown terrific signs in his first season,” Lamb said in a Melbourne statement.

“We are confident he is going to become a really strong contributor for the Melbourne Football Club, and we look forward to seeing him continue to develop in the future.”

Bowey was named the Round 22 Rising Star after his 18-disposal and six-mark game in Melbourne’s win over Adelaide.
