Port Adelaide extends contracts of talented young trio

2021-12-13T15:13+11:00

Port Adelaide has re-signed Xavier Duursma, Kane Farrell and Todd Marshall as they look to respond to a disappointing finals exit in 2021.

All three were due to come out of contract at the end of 2022, however Farrell will remain at the club until at least 2023 while Duursma and Marshall signed two-year deals to tie themselves to the club until 2024.

Marshall, 23, is a developing key forward with 57 goals to his name and Duursma, 21, has shown significant talent as a midfielder in his 46 games.

Meanwhile, 22-year-old Farrell is well-known for his raking left foot and has shown footy smarts as a half-forward.

All three have been members of the Power’s best 22 throughout the past season and club list manager Jason Cripps hailed the impact of the trio.

“Todd, Xavier and Kane are a big part of the young group we have built our side around,” Cripps said.

“Todd had his most consistent season in 2021, playing all but three games, and he continues to play an important role in our forward line.

“Xavier’s year was interrupted by a serious knee injury but we know his running power and while we have had a good taste of what he is capable of, we think there is plenty of upside to come.

“Kane was on track for a career-best year before he suffered a ruptured ACL in Round 16. We know he’s an elite user of the ball and at 22, he still has plenty of really good footy in front of him.”

Ken Hinkley’s men suffered a 71-point defeat to the Western Bulldogs in the Preliminary Final and will be looking to go one better in 2022.
