The two Power players who have “stepped it up” this pre-season

Port Adelaide youngster Kane Farrell has identified two youngsters that have stood out so far during pre-season training.

Farrell, who signed a one year extension on Monday, recognised two players who have been lighting up the track in the early stages of the pre-season.

Farrell says young star Zak Butters has returned in great order, as the 21-year-old looks to make a transition into a more permanent midfield role.

“His running has gone to another level, you don’t really see him walking at training, he’s buzzing around trying to get the footy or trying to tackle somebody,” Farrell said on SEN SA Breakfast.

“He’s really stepped it up this year.”

Butters averaged 19 disposals per game in 2021, however, a foot injury left him only able to play 12 games.

Talented forward Todd Marshall, who also signed a contract extension on Monday, has caught the eye of Farrell.

“His body shape and all that has really gone up that little bit more, his running is looking quite well for next season,” Farrell added.

“Exciting things ahead.”

A developing key forward, Marshall, who was taken with pick 16 in the 2016 Draft, has returned 57 goals in 55 games.

After another impressive 2021 season that saw Port Adelaide reach the Preliminary Final, Ken Hinkley’s men will no doubt be looking to go one better in 2022.
