“Took a long time to get over”: Former Hawks CEO reflects on short stay

2022-01-16T11:08+11:00

Tracey Gaudry has reflected on her short stint as Hawthorn CEO.

Gaudry was sacked just five months into the role in 2017 after becoming the first female chief executive at an AFL club.

The former Olympic cyclist said her time at Hawthorn was a “big learning curve” and admitted her departure from Waverley Park “took a long time to get over”.

“It’s a really relevant element of my career to focus on,” Gaudry told SEN’s This Is Your Journey – thanks to Tobin Brothers.

“For all the right intention, the club saw an opportunity to bring diversity into its mix … and I was an obvious choice for someone who could change things up, bring diversity and realise great outcomes.

“The outcome of this set of ingredients didn’t give that perfect solution. The recipe didn’t come together and mix into a perfect result.

“It was a big learning curve for me. It took a long time to get over, let’s be honest about it

“I took a lot from that in terms of the roles I’m taking now which are a very much focused on creating positive outcomes for people at community level and what can I do to impart knowledge and experience, and lifting others up to play that role.”

Gaudry is the current CEO of Respect Victoria - an organisation dedicated to the primary prevention of all forms of family violence and violence against women.
