Women's Footy returns to Channel 9 on January 30th

2022-01-21T10:25+11:00

Sports Entertainment Network is delighted to announce that Women’s Footy returns to Channel 9 next Sunday, January 30.

And Women’s Footy returns with a new host, with talented broadcaster Brihony Dawson to front the program. Dawson, a sports broadcaster, singer, and performer, will bring plenty of life and energy to the program each week.

Women’s Footy is free-to-air’s only dedicated AFLW program. This year we will delve into the latest AFLW news and major talking points and in-depth analysis of the action on the field, as well as feature interviews with the biggest stars.

Dawson will be joined by an expert on the panel, with AFLW stars Libby Birch, Ellie Blackburn and Kate McCarthy all set to be involved, as well as many more.

When asked about working alongside some of these incredible women, Brihony said they were honoured to be able to lead the program this year.

“I'm pretty pumped to be hosting Women's Footy. I've been obsessed with footy since I was a kid, well, footy and the Bombers.

“I played down at the Peanut Farm in St Kilda for a few years but was a bit past my use-by date when the AFLW started to strap on the boots.

To be hosting such an important and popular show is a real honour.”

Brihony makes their return to the screen after finding inspiration in this career path two years ago.

“When I was given the opportunity to participate in the Making The Call program in 2020 it really lit a fire inside me to pursue my love of footy and passion for sports broadcasting” Dawson said.

The 2022 AFLW season has already delivered breathtaking highlights, dominant individual and team performances, and even more stars of the future have emerged.

Women’s Footy is produced by Rainmaker - Sports Entertainment Network’s TV arm - and Rainmaker CEO Richard Simkiss said the team looked forward to the show’s return.

“Women’s Footy TV began even before the AFLW began and its played an important role side by side in showcasing not only the great football but the great stories and journeys of the athletes,” Simkiss said.

“We look forward to its return to channel 9 next Sunday and following the exciting run home for the expanded competition and great football action.”
